Important rules in the web design

16 July 2012

When you design a website, it’s necessary to pay attention to all the details because even little things determine how successful the website would be on the Internet. Here are the rules by following which you can ensure high quality website performance.

1) Avoid using splash pages

What are the splash pages? The splash pages are the first pages which you see upon visiting the website. Normally they are very colorful and beautiful web pages with the calling mottos such as “welcome”, “enter”, “click here”. However, in reality they are just nice-looking shells without any particular purpose. Therefore, don’t waste an effort trying to create a vague impression on your visitors. Better make it clear that your site can be valuable and useful for them.

2) Banner advertisements

Nowadays people generally ignore banner advertisements and hence, their usage would be a complete waste of money and time. A content with relevant affiliate links would add much more value to your website. People don’t need to feel as if they’ve been pushed to make a purchase. It has to be their personal decision.

3) Simple and clear navigation system

The simpler the navigation system is, the wider range of visitors you can attract to your website and turn them into your regular customers. Without understanding how to navigate the site, people would leave it right away. Try to avoid using Flash and multiple drop-down menus to not over-complicate the pages. A coherent navigation system is a key to success.

4) No audio on the site

If you want to have your visitors stay on the site long enough to read the content, make sure there’s nothing that would annoy them. The wrong choice of an audio file can make your visitors want to click away right off. But if it is really that important to have music on the site, in that case think of the control over it. A customer should be able to make it mute if the need be. That’s how a user-friendly website should perform.
