Project your business with an effective website color scheme

06 August 2012

To create an exceptional and effective color scheme is probably the hardest part of any web design. A certain set of colors can create the right impression on your visitors and give a personal touch to the website.

Contrast. Go for the colors that can give enough contrast to emphasize the text. It’s not a good idea to use light on light or dark on dark. The goal of a website is to make sure that the message is read. If the content is not read, a website has failed to do its job.

Simplicity. 3 or 4 colors would be a reasonable amount of colors (or the shades of these colors) to use on a website. Make a decision regarding the colors you’re planning to use and stick to your choice.

Complementary colors. These colors are placed opposite each other on a color palette. The most common three sets are the following: 1) red and green; 2) purple and yellow; 3) orange and blue. You may be surprised to see how well these colors work together. Besides, a good choice of complementary colors can maximise the readability of your content.

Chromatic colors. This method can help you to create a nice-looking web design by using shades and hues of only one color for the entire website. As an example, you may want to use only black color and its hues: grey, dark grey, light grey, white, bright grey, etc. By doing so, your website will obtain an attractive and professional look.

Analog colors. The usage of analog colors is another effective approach to create a visually appealing website design. For example, if you use red as a main color, the analog colors, orange and yellow, will go well together.

Creative ideas. If you lack ideas, just go for a walk and pay attention to the colors of nature. It knows better how to organically and effectively use the colors. Implement those ideas in your website design.
