The importance of a good web design

17 July 2012

Have you ever thought of designing your own website? If that’s the case, what aspect do you think is important to take into consideration? You might be thinking that it’s just the way your web pages look. To some extent it’s true, but not entirely. The website should be equipped with a good navigation system, internal navigable links and a decent general representative appearance.

When the prospective customers visit your website, ideally you would want them to find the needed information at a rate of knots. If they do, hopefully they would want to come back to your site time and time again, maybe even bookmark your page or take a note of the web address for use. However, if you don’t grasp their attention and interest, they will more than likely never come back again.

What you want to do is to make your website accessible so that all the information on the site is clear and marked with the links. Of course, you can’t take everything under control and make people stay on the site against their will. But by making the site interactive and interesting for the viewers, your site will definitely gain popularity and certain advantages over the competitors’ sites.

The images and banners should be used in a wise manner. Don’t go mad with their amount on a page. They should only complement the content. An ideal rule to abide by would be to have 70 per cent of writing content and 30 per cent of graphic files. Either the home or index page should reveal the main concept of the site. If you’re promoting a certain product or offer some services, make it known and obvious.

The site is expected to be attractive to the eyes and entice new customers all the time. The pages should be clear, readable and well-structured. Be very careful picking the colors for your website design. The mismatching colors and styles dispersed throughout the website would create undesired impression on the visitors. The site might look good enough for you, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that your visitors will share your opinion. That is why, professional help of a web designer would be very relevant.

Basic understanding of HTML codes would be sensible because it’s the code which all the websites are made up. You don’t have to be an expert but knowledge of the basics would be really helpful.
