Things you should avoid on your website

15 June 2012

The layout of a website can actually tell a visitor a lot about the company and its owner. When you come to a nice and elegant website, it does say that a website owner has got a good aesthetic taste and he’s a nice person. Such website can immediately make a person feel appeasement and comfort. Therefore, a nice-looking and elegant website will help you to present your business in a professional way.

However, there are way too many websites today that literally damage your eyesight with the wrong color combination and fonts. Such websites cause desire to close the window straight away. Why does it happen this way? Because there are certain things that should be considered before the website is created. In this article I’d like to discuss the stuff that is NOT advisable to have on your site.

Neon colors

The usage of neon colors may repel your visitors from the website. For one, neon colors are just too bright and can be straining to look at. For too, the whole reading process can become very painful and unpleasant. On visiting such a website, your visitors can easily be turned off and thus, lost. Don’t run a risk to lose your targeted audiences with a website of poor quality. Though, the neon colors can be used as a way to highlight the important message you want to draw your visitors’ attention to.

The black and dark backgrounds

The dark backgrounds are not recommended if you don’t want to create a sleazy and negative impression. Therefore, light colors is what you need to effectively display the content. You can have the black background, surely, but the text should be posted on a lighter background.

No spacing between paragraphs

It might seem to you that this rule is just too basic and not worth mentioning, but in reality we come across such websites all the time. People post their blogs, articles and content without paragraph spacing and make the reading process really really difficult. Imagine a long article spread on the entire page, would it not seem a hard job to read it to the end? That’s the common reason why there are so many websites left unread and neglected.

Caps Lock

The text written in all capital letters can easily be perceived as a shout. But no one likes to be shouted or to be pointed out what to do. For this reason, use the Caps Lock only when you want to draw reader’s attention to the important point.
