Web design tips to attract customers and make them stay on a site

26 July 2012

Marketing via using a website has got many many advantages over other known forms of marketing, however there are still some aspects which are almost identical. The only difference which could be mentioned here is the technical requirements themselves needed to be taken into account. But the whole objective of any form of marketing remains the same – to attract new customers and make them want to buy a product from you.

Every website needs to perform certain functions. The key words to keep in mind would be attraction, desire, action, satisfaction and interest. When all these concepts are meticulously fulfilled, the result would surpass all expectations. That’s the only successful way to not only drive traffic and potential customers to the website, but also make them want to stay there and purchase items online.

The concept of web site design is so much more than just a nice-looking photo and a matching color that goes well with a company’s logo. A good website design has to be functional, well-readable and highly usable. If you manage to create the one, it will work for the benefit of your business.

Of course, it’s not possible to make a list of all the tips how to create a successfully functioning website. Any list would simply be just an effort but not a complete list of things you need to do to guarantee a success. However, in this article I’d like to offer you to explore the basic principles of a good website design.

  • aesthetics shouldn’t go first

Many web designers are preoccupied with an idea to design a nice-looking website and thus, they tend to forget that the Internet users are not searching for beautiful websites. Information is what they basically need. That is why make sure your website is effective and it incorporates all the fundamental elements that would work for your customers.

  • readability

If you want to have a professional-looking website to entice customers and encourage them to read about your products and services, make sure that information given on web pages is accurate, interesting and useful. Make readability a fundamental ingredient of your website.

  • logic

The content on a site should be logically organized and broken down into sections. Obviously, it takes some planning but that’s definitely a key to having a successful business website. Visitors should be able to find the desired information quickly and comfortably.

  • fonts

Don’t go for fancy fonts. You never know what browser your users have and how the font is going to comply with it. The entire web design may distort and spoil the general view. Besides, it’s highly recommended to go for middle-sized font, typically 10-12 pt fonts.

  • background noise

Try to avoid using background music. You can never tell if it annoys your visitors or actually please them. In any case, all background noises generally distract people from the message that a business owner needs to convey to his prospective clients.
